The VisiSonics Digital Microphone Array (VDAM) system’s patented digital microphone array technology offers the ultimate in flexibility. The VDAM system provides the ability to chain several microphones together in series, significantly reducing wire clutter. Since the A to D conversion is done right at the microphone capsule, the architecture completely eliminates the costly add-ons (preamplifiers, analog to digital equipment, and processing computers) necessary to the operation of other microphone arrays.

VDAM In-Depth
Microphone arrays have long been considered a promising technology for diverse applications in audio engineering, including spatially selective source capture, capturing a live event, ambisonics, video-conferencing, and the analysis of a listening space. Despite this promise, microphone arrays have, in practice, been extremely hard to use. Setting up an array used to require microphones, preamplifiers, digitizers, data acquisition, and cabling between all components — an expensive and cumbersome proposition.

VisiSonics Digital Array Microphones™ (VDAM) address all of these issues and offer users substantial performance with high quality 24-bit digitization in an integrated module. VDAM features a patent-pending interconnection architecture that allows several microphones to be interconnected in a serial chain over a compact digital bus to a small controller unit. This unit supports up to four VDAM chains and connects through a single industry standard USB2.0 cable to a PC. VDAM software provides the ability to stream recordings to disk. The gain and sampling rate (up to 48 kHz) are digitally settable. The provided drivers support standard applications.
